Who is Udit Narayan?

Udit Narayan is an Indian well-known playback singer whose songs have been highlighted mainly in Hindi films. Narayan has also sang in numerous other languages as well as Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Odia, Bengali, Nepali, Bhojpuri, Maithili. Assamese, Malayalam and Bagheli. Narayan has won 4 different National Film Awards and 5 other Filmfare Awards with also 20 nominations among others.

Udit Narayan has featured some other signer including Mohammed Rafi in his Hindi playback debut in the movie Unees-Bees in 1980, he also featured Kishore Kumar in the 1980s. Narayan finally made his mark in the 1988 movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak where he featured Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, his song “Papa Kehte Hain” was his remarkable performance which gotten him his first Filmfare Award in the 1980s and he later proven himself in Bollywood Playback Singing.

Udit Narayan Jha was born on 1st of December, 1955 to the Maithil Brahmin family whose his father is from Nepali that’s known as Harekrishna Jha, Jha is a farmer and his mother which is from Indian that’s known as Bhuvaneshwari Jha who is a folk singer.

In 2009, Udit Narayan was awarded India’s civilian honour Padma Shri, there were rumors that’s interrogative his Indian citizenship where he’s claiming that he was born in Nepal. Though, Udit Narayan himself registered these reports as the “completely false”, and he stated that he was born in the Baisi village of Supaul district of Bihar at his maternal grandparents’ home.

When his approval of the Padma Shri led to his disapproval in Nepal, he told the Nepalese daily Kantipur that he was “from Nepal but his mother’s home was in Bihar.”

In a 2017 interview with the Indian magazine Outlook, where he clarified that he was born in Baisi, and he clarified that his father Harekrishna was a native of Bhardaha, Saptari District, Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal.

In September 2018, Udit Narayan discovered at a ceremony held by the Bihar Jharkhand of Association of North America where he classifies as a Bihari.

Udit Narayan Career.

Regarding Narayan’s career, Narayan is one of the most noticeable singers of Bollywood throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Narayan has been the on-screen singing voice for numerous Bollywood stars. Narayan has sang for Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgn. Most of his doubles work are with Alka Yagnik. Narayan started his music career in 1970 as a Maithili folk singer (staff artist) for Radio Nepal, where he is singing popular folk songs in Maithili and Nepali.

As time goes on, he started singing Nepali modern songs. Eight years after, Narayan relocated to Bombay from Nepal because of a musical scholarship for Nepalese from the Indian Embassy in Nepal to study traditional music at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan.

Narayan began his Bollywood career in 1980 when he was well-known by Rajesh Roshan who is a music director in the industry, who asked him to performed playback sing for the Hindi film Unees-Bees. Narayan was given an opportunity to sing with the singer Mohammed Rafi where he sang for Devanand, a stanza in Swami Dada. His first acted film with people was in the film (Sannata).

Later on, Narayan sang for numerous movies, which including Bade Dil Wala in 1983, where he sang a pair with Lata Mangeshkar who is his senior singer, with his senior music director R. D. Burman. In the same year, Narayan sang with Kishore Kumar in the film Kehdo Pyar Hai. He also sang with was Suresh Wadkar with the music composed by Bappi Lahiri.

A major milestone in his career happened in 1988 when Anand–Milind gave him the opportunity to sing all the songs for the successful Bollywood movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, with Alka Yagnik, which gotten him a Filmfare Award.

In an interview with The Times of India, Narayan said: “The song I’ve sang, “Manzilein”, is the best song of my career after “Pehla Nasha”, which make me to be famous!” Narayan continued creative through the 2000s when he’s singing popular numbers in films such as Pukar, Dhadkan, Lagaan, Devdas and Veer-Zaara

In 2002, Narayan sang “Bairi Piya” with novice Shreya Ghoshal, from the film Devdas, of which Rediff was revealed: “Narayan well captures the timeless invention of Devdas”. In 2014, Narayan sang a song titled “Naa Hum Jo Kah De” together with Shreya Ghoshal, for the album Women’s Day Special: Spreading Melodies Everywhere. The song was composed by Ram Shankar and penned by A. K. Mishra.

Although he was a leading playback singer in the 1990s but he had to participate with his closest professional opponent Kumar Sanu as he won back to back 5 Filmfares in the 1990s.

Narayan’s career has been commended by his colleagues Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy and the music director Ankit Tiwari. Mid-Day was included by him in the list of famous 1990s playback singers. Narayan is considered as the one of the most noticeable singers of his generation.
