In mid-1987, Villeneuve left his family to attend the Spenard-David Racing School in Shannonville, Ontario, Canada to improve his abilities under Richard Spenard. However, the Canadian and Italian authorities didn’t grant his licence since due to his age, so he obtained an international racing licence in Andorra with the help of Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs aid. Villeneuve performed poorly in each of this three rounds.

In 1999, Villeneuve joined the British American Racing (BAR) team. He continued with team BAR the following year, but the same destiny continued, and he didn’t record any wins there.
