Who is Golshifteh Farahani?

Golshifteh Farahani is a well-known Iranian actress, singer and musician. She played the character of ‘Shansa’ in the Hollywood film, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ in 2017.

Golshifteh Farahani Early Life.

Golshifteh Farahani was born on Sunday, 10 July 1983 in Tehran, Iran to the family of Behzad Farahani and her Mother, Fahimeh Rahimnia.

Golshifteh Farahani Career. 

With the drama film “The Pear Tree (Derakht-e-Golabi),” directed by Dariush Mehrjui, Golshifteh Farahani launched her acting career. For her performance as “Mim” (also known as Mitra) in the movie, she received the Simorgh Prize for Best Actress at the Fajr Film Festival. Later, she made an appearance in the contentious movie “Haft Parde (Seven Acts),” which the Iranian government later decided to outlaw.

Two Angels, her subsequent film, was chosen for the Semaine de la Critique award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. 

The Iranian authorities throughout the nation also outlawed this movie. For her performance as “Eti” in the movie “Boutique,” she received Best Actress prizes from the Nantes Three Continents Festival and the House of Cinema Festival in Tehran (2003). 

She also received recognition for her performance in the 2004 movie “Ashk-e Sarma (The Tear of the Cold)” at the Kazan International Film Festival.

Farahani has appeared in a number of films that have been outlawed in Iran, including “Niwemang (Half Moon),” “Bab’Aziz: Le prince qui contemplait son âme,” and “To Each His Cinema.” She played “Aisha” in the American spy thriller “Body of Lies.” In Iran, this movie received harsh criticism as well, and Farahani had to deal with a lot of hostility from the people there. 

The most well-known movies Farahani was in during the following ten years were “There Be Dragons,” “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

Rahavard Farahani gave birth to Golshifteh Farahani in Tehran on July 10, 1983. She is the daughter of actor and theatrical director Behzad Farahani and Fahimeh Rahimnia. She attended a music school as a child and obtained her degree from Iran’s Azad University

  • She was prohibited from going back to her own country in 2012 after posing topless for the French magazine “Madame Le Figaro.”
  • She caused yet another uproar in 2012 when she was seen in “The Patience Stone” while nude.
